Keys to preventing foreclosure
If you have not purchased yet: Understand your budget and what you can afford. A reliable budget counselor can help you determine your best options. If you have credit problems, use a certified and trustworthy credit counselor to help you clear them up. Understand your home and mortgage obligations, including any escalation clauses or changes in interest rates.
If you have already purchased: Make sure you understand the terms of your loan and what changes, if any, you can expect in the amount you pay monthly. If you are struggling to pay the mortgage, work with a counselor to establish a budget and to see if you can modify your loan. Do not wait! You need to start this process as soon as possible. See our easy to read handbook.
How to lose your home? Ignore letters from the bank, ignore your late payments, ignore what is happening. If you wait too long to face your financial problems, your home will be lost - - and your credit ruined.
